Go read the Preamble to the Constitution (a preamble is the basis for everything that follows) and you will learn, if you have basic reading comprehension skills, that every right that is guaranteed to you and I is equally shared by OUR POSTERITY.
And the federal government has a perfect right to define marriage. Utah and Arizona were not allowed to enter the Union, by law, until and unless they forsook polygamy in their foundational documents.
