I think you might be on to something. I work in a pretty diverse work force. I have found that the better a person can speak English or knew a science (i.e., image science, advanced math, database design, etc...) the higher, the position they could obtain regardless of the color of there skin. The people with poor English, low education level or are lazy usually end up pushing brooms.

Don't forget teamwork. You can be bright and work OK, but if you lack teamwork that will limit you also.
