Wrong. William F Buckley jr founded the modern conservative movement in the 1950`s. Barry Goldwater had the conservative cojones in 1964 to run for POTUS, but he didn't have the skills to get elected. Americans rejected him. Both advancing the conservative agenda and getting elected POTUS was left to the great Ronald Reagan. As we came to see, soon after Goldwater disappeared into obscurity, came the real facts about his so-called conservatism. Old Barry was actually a libertarian. Pro-choice, pro-gay rights and defender of William Jefferson Clinton. Old Barry also hated Nixon and Reagan. Goldwater hated social conservatism. Goldwater was usually out of step with what was right for America.

That's only half true. Goldwater was, in his later career, pro-choice and pro-gay, that's true, but he wasn't always that way.
And I've seen no evidence that Goldwater hated Reagan, but Nixon is true. He hated Nixon because he was far too liberal. Nixon was to the WH what Arnold has become to California: good ideas, usually, but tries to appease the left. It never works.
