Kerry Blasts Foreign Policy, Says U.S. Has Become 'International Pariah'

DAVOS, Switzerland — Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry slammed the foreign policy of the Bush administration on Saturday, saying it has caused the United States to become "a sort of international pariah."

The statement came as the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee responded to a question about whether the U.S. government had failed to adequately engage Iran's government before the election of hard-liner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2005.

Kerry said the Bush administration has failed to adequately address a number of foreign policy issues.

"When we walk away from global warming, Kyoto, when we are irresponsibly slow in moving toward AIDS in Africa, when we don't advance and live up to our own rhetoric and standards, we set a terrible message of duplicity and hypocrisy," Kerry said.

"So we have a crisis of confidence in the Middle East — in the world, really. I've never seen our country as isolated, as much as a sort of international pariah for a number of reasons as it is today."

Why do those who live by what others think insist reality so sacrifice?

We couldn't be better and the world couldn't think less of us. That's their problem. We need to operate accordingly, not pretend otherwise as Horse Face says.

You are correct, the senate rejected Kyoto by a vote of 95-0 on July 25, 1997. Kerry actually did vote against Kyoto before he was for it.

Time for another vote! Keep these SOB's on the record. The more they have to defend their votes, the sooner their heads will explode like the "fembots" in Austin Powers.

A second-hander depends upon the opinions of others instead of his own rational judgement. A social metaphysician substitutes the opinions of others for reality. Just because Kerry is both a second-hander and a social metaphysician does not mean that the country as a whole has to be.

The question is, did he vote against Kyoto or was he not present. About 5 or so Sinataurs abstained or were not there.

Anyone have that picture of Lurch lurking behind the columns the day after the last election? He's a pariah in his own party.

Kerry voted yes.

Those who did not vote are: Bryan (D-NV), Feinstein (D-CA), Grams (R-MN), Harkin (D-IA), Reid (D-NV)

What a huge stinking pile..... Jon Cary, YOU are the one who has to answer to charges of "duplicity and hypocrisy" (and much more)...... we have our faults, but the USA lives up to "our own rhetoric and standards" better than any major power in the world's history, and when we fall short it's not in the ways or for the reasons that leftists like Jon "Vichy" Cary think. Citing Kyoto (worse than meaningless), AIDS in Africa (not our problem, but we are doing lots more now than the Clintonistas and the Demagogues in Congress ever bothered to do), or unspecified "rhetoric and standards" is the usual Demagogue b.s. Jon Cary, why don't you work on YOUR "rhetoric and standards" for a few years. Now that you will never be President, you can spend the rest of your pathetic life thinking about what a whiny wanker you are.
