AUSTIN, Texas - Liberal Texas columnist Molly Ivins has been hospitalized in her ongoing battle with breast cancer, her assistant said Friday.
Ivins may be able to go home Monday, Betsy Moon said.
"That's the day the doctors said," Moon said. "We're not sure what's going to happen, but she's very sick."
Ivins, 62, had taken a break from her syndicated column, which appears in nearly 400 newspapers, but resumed writing earlier this month.
Her most recent column appeared two weeks ago, when Ivins urged readers to stand up against President Bush's plan to send more troops to Iraq.
Ivins, a California native who grew up in Houston, got her third cancer diagnosis more than a year ago. She has undergone chemotherapy.
She was overwhelmed with advice and gifts after she wrote of her initial diagnosis of breast cancer in 1999. The outpouring kept her from telling readers of recurrences in 2003 and 2005.
Ivins said last year she isn't giving in to cancer.
"Maybe this is false bravado," she said in the Austin American-Statesman. "In some ways for me, this is like having a manageable disease. It's like diabetes. It doesn't mean it's not going to come get me in the end."
Nope; it only goes in remission.
You are well now, I trust?
It only goes into remission because it is illegal to say you've cured it.

I don't like Molly Ivins at all on a political level. On a personal level, though, I wish her well.

Might be a good time to cultivate a taste for Thai food...
Cancer sucks. Best wishes to her for a full recovery. And shame on you who have anything else to say about this.
Hope she gets well!
LOL! After that article came out, I started drinking a tea made out of cayenne pepper. Also ordered some grapeseed extract after a story came out about that. I figure this stuff can't hurt, and it might help.

Yep. My mom had breast cancer in '90, had a mastectomy and no other treatment, and has not had any sign of it returning since. I think that 17 years without a reoccurence could honestly be called "cured".
Molly made me a conservative. Yep, that sounds impossible, but its true. At Texas A&M, in the 80s wed gather in the library and read the school newspaper, The Battalion. For some reason they carried her column.
Week after week she railed against Reagan. Its all Reagans fault was the theme of every column. We non-politically aware college students used to predict, before reading, how shed tie Reagan to the current calamity.
It was lots of fun. Her simple-minded buffoonery was clear. A conservative was born.
Thanks, Molly!

You need to add it to chicken soup, it couldn't hurt...< /Jewish Mother>
I think it's misdiagnosed.
I'm sure it's an excess of bile.
I've read that people are more likely to survive if they have a fighting attitude. Makes sense. All the best to her.
She sure could spew some venom, but underneath it all, I still liked her guts. She could be very funny. Over the years she was less funny, though....
I wish her well. I wouldn't wish breast cancer on anyone.
Losing the Post was sad. The Houston Chronicle was liberal, and hated the Aggies passionately. As did the Dallas papers.
I am so sorry to read this...Sending good thought her way...sw
