you might try using some "nouns" in your posts so people other than you might know what the hell you're talking about. LOL

"You may not see it because you are not involved with the many DOE, etc. programs?"
Who are "they" and what have "they" accomplished to make us energy independent specifically?
"You must also balance this with those who don't like seeing tax dollars going into these programs?"
For starters, Congress could & should have pushed forward legislation that would have allowed drilling in ANWR and the Gulf which wouldn't require any "government funding".
Now with the 'Rats in control of both houses of Congress there's little chance of that happening.

That oil isn't going anywhere so it's just a part of out reserves. The real mission is to become independent thru conservation and alternative technologies.
