Either they are stupid .. or they tried calling someone about this and they were ignored

Years ago I reported a neighbor who I heard strike their child 100 times. The child cried loudly at first, then it finally got softer, and softer.

When I first heard the sounds, I thought it was a catfight, then realized it was a child. I called the Child Abuse Hotline in the front of the phone book.

I was crying, and the lady in Austin who answered the phone was very helpful, and concerned.

She notified the police in my town who came out, sat in their car, and did nothing. She said under Texas law, the officers could go to the house, knock, and demand to see the child.

Except the police wouldn't and didn't. There were back and forth calls. Police said they needed a court order. It was one of the most sickening experiences of my life. I wanted to go over there, and she warned me not to, that I'd be trespassing, and no telling what they'd do to me. Two weeks later, I got a form letter from CPS that said Child Abuse occurred, and there would be no follow up.

In Texas, we have had many many cases of children dying through child abuse, even though people did report it to the authorities.
