JAKARTA (AP): An alleged Southeast Asian terror leader threatened to call for holy war against Indonesian police Thursday, days after an anti-terror squad shot dead 15 suspected Islamic extremists.

Abu Bakar Bashir, accused by Australia and the United States of being a key figure in the al-Qaida-linked Jemaah Islamiyah, said Muslims should stop serving in the police's anti-terror squad on Indonesia's conflict-ridden Sulawesi island.

"If Muslims are being killed, then we must fight back," the 69-year-old cleric told around 100 hard-liners outside the National Human Rights Commission in the capital, Jakarta, where they were protesting Monday's killings.

"If necessary, we must organize a jihad," he said.

Gosh, yet another jihad. Who can keep track ?

"I don't like the way you look. Jihad on you!"
"You should give all your possesions. No ? Jihad on you!"

I've had it with all the damn Jihads on everyone and everything. Perhaps we should declare our own holy war, call a Crusade, or a holy socialist struggle, whatever. Holy opening of can of whopass or something. See how many of them crap their diapers.

"They have insulted Islam! In the name of the prophet, We must determine if their words and actions are accurate! We must sit down and discuss the issue! In the name of Allah, We must then move on to other things, because life is too short to get bent out of shape about every insult!"

Now THAT would be news...

Ignoring that the cleric is too old to do much but talk a few minutes each day, what if those killing moslams are also moslems? We don't need a completely coherent logical development, just a tendency toward a degree of reason.

What you see in this repudiation of law enforcement is proof of a cult of revolutionists who refuse to conform to the predominant code of any society that's not organized under the tenets of the Koran. It's a competing system for living, not a religion. Any conformity practiced would be out of political expediency and fear, not faith, trust and loyalty. It's a real mess to expect this to turn out well when the dominant world culture is too busy being full of itself to see what's going on. Any radical muslim who comes to the conclusion the west (including Israel) is weak is an astute radical muslim. I'd be raising the ante too if I felt as good about my belief system and saw how poorly the west was taking care of theirs. We are funding their highest dreams and aspirations with our ingenuity utilizing a resource to raise our standard of living. This is setting up for a really nasty time in human history.

When is "moderate" islam going to stand up to it's murderous lunatics? The murderous lunatics are just going to get more and more murderous.

It doesn't exist because moderate "belief" isn't taught. Moderation isn't part of the value system. Intolerance to nonconformity is the main tenet of Islam. The only moderates are secular. To be fair intolerance towards certain kinds of behavior is present in every culture. The simplest way to describe it is this culture has not been through an enlightenment. We went through ours 5 centuries ago.
