My aunt and uncle sent this out to our family at 6:30 AM today. Carrie is my young cousin, a very gifted artist, and the second eldest among her siblings. She and her family are in Michigan.
Prayer reqeust from my aunt and uncle (Carrie is their granddaughter).
This morning on her way to work Carrie's car slid on the highway and into a tree. She has very bad injuries, especially to her head. Her brain is swelling and she is now in surgery. They plan to open her skull to allow for the swelling, and she is not responding. They don't give her parents a lot of hope. We are telling everyone so you can join us in praying for our dear Caroline. They called her parents about 7:45 this morning and they're at the hospital now.

from: Chad and Lillian)
January 24. It is our oldest daughter’s wedding anniversary (Happy 4th, Lil and Chad!!) It is also the day before the one year mark of Caroline’s accident. So we have joy and sadness. And we have hope.
I am going to include a couple of notes we received recently. There are many people praying for Carrie’s recovery, and we are so VERY thankful for that.
Ben’s grandmother wrote us earlier this week, and here is a portion of her letter:
“I’m sure you know that we love Carrie as our own and pray for her constantly. I felt that the Lord wanted me to do more and so, I took it upon myself to “buy” a day on WCSG (91.3 FM) to ask everyone to pray for Caroline. I chose January 25th, “Carrie’s Day” hoping to knock at heaven’s gates on her behalf. We just love her so much and want her back. Our hope is in the Lord who made heaven and earth and everything in it. We will be going to the Holy Land at the end of this month and the whole purpose of our trip is to bring Caroline before the Lord everyday in every way. We look forward to hearing good news on our return.”
That sure was so kind of the Potyrajs! So, if you live in the West Michigan area, you can listen to 91.3 tomorrow.
Carrie is doing well. She has another respiratory infection, but we caught it very early, so it doesn’t even seem to bother her.
We had a nice prayer service here on New Year’s Day. We are continually declaring God’s Word over this situation. The following night, Carrie’s nurse told us that she “talked” in her sleep more than ever, and even got loud, like she was calling out. That encouraged us.
Here is a note we received from a friend, Cindy:
“I sense the Lord saying the time of sorrow and mourning has past, let your time now be filled with joy and laughter, praise and worship. Let your home be filled with music and the Word, let it saturate and soak into every room, especially Caroline’s.
For though in the natural it would seem that I have not answered the prayers lifted to Me for Caroline, I have answered them and will continue to. For My arm is not too short, to heal and restore. My timing and purposes are not those of man, but they are Divine.
Keep standing firm in the armor I have given you, continue to hold fast to My promises when your strength and faith are low, remember that I am only a whisper away.”
And I will close with a prayer sent by my cousin, Gretchen. Please pray it with us:
“Father, I lift the whole family to You, asking for Your peace that goes beyond all of our understanding. I pray You will sovereignly work to focus all their attention on You. Fill everyone with a higher level of faith. You are the Great Physician! In Jesus’ Name I come against all discouragement and I loose the truth about Carrie’s healing process that You know and delight in, to enter into the hearts of all who love her. You are the Resurrection and the Life and it is by Your hand that Carrie lives and breathes today. Thank you, God, for all Your tender mercies. Thank you for the abundant life that is manifesting in her. Make her whole-body, soul, and spirit. It is Your Word that lives in Carrie and brings health and healing to every part of her body. Thank you, Lord! Amen.”
And a verse:
“What shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Romans 8:35, 37

Today is the one year anniversary of Cade’s last seizure!
-
For those of you that don’t know, Matthew’s brother Cade, age eight, has had seizures since he was 18 months old. He has seizures that do not stop easy without medication, lasting sometimes over 20 minutes, one that has lasted longer. A seizure that last this long is life threatening. We carry medication with us where ever we go so that we can stop a seizure, should Cade have one. When Cade has a seizures they are not mild, but full convulsion or grand mal seizures.
-
The year prior to this year, Cade was averaging a seizure every 3 weeks, with probably about 8 trips in the ambulance in 2005/2006. Cade has also been discriminated against because of his epilepsy / medication. On top of everything else going on this year, we were struggling to find a law firm to represent Cade, our prior counsel was not competant. Luckily I did most of this work before Matthew’s diagnosis. During our stay in Houston, a civil rights law firm agreed to take the case, which was an answered prayer. Cade currently has one of the first of its kind civil rights lawsuits pending in Federal Court. No child should be told they cannot go somewhere because they have epilepsy. We are hoping to create new court precendent in our country to protect the rights of these special kids. I have always been interested in the law, I worked as a paralegal for many years. I finally got my BA degree this past May and was supposed to start law school this summer, so protecting the rights of kids is a passion of mine and maybe someday a future career.
-
God knew that we would need a break this year with Matthew’s condition. We would have never traveled cross country with Cade before this year, we were too scared of him being far from emergency care. Matthew’s condition made us get over our fear and trust that God would take care of Cade, while we were driving through the middle of nowhere.
-
God has given us two special boys. He has taken care of both of our boys this year. Cade not having any grand mal seizures this year is a miracle in itself. We have definately had a year full of blessings and for this we celebrate today! Thank You Jesus!!!!
