Anyone who thinks socialized medicine is such a hot idea should be made to spend some time in a country that has it.

Better yet, "Anyone who thinks socialized medicine is such a hot idea should get sick in a country that has it."

After 13 years in Germany...I can write 30 pages on why socialized medicine isn't the glory job that it says. There are vast holes in the German system. And be aware...the Germans had to build two escape valves into the mess.

The first way to avoid social medicine...is to make more than $50k per year...then you can buy a private policy that covers all of the things you'd really like to cover. The social policy by the government...is a basic policy that leaves alot of stuff out.

The second way...is to be a government worker...a cop...a fireman...because they have their own policy...which gives them first-class care. They don't worry about holes in the national policy. They get the private room...while the real people get eight people to a huge ward area. The government guys get real drugs...while the national policy buys the generic stuff for you. Don't worry...if you are unhappy...just suck it up. You won't get another option unless you pay for it yourself...out of your own pocket.

I know. My friend from Ireland came over and was bragging about how everything was free over there. Then she went back and had some kind of heart trouble and it was going to be a long wait. She wanted to come back to U.S. on next flight. ha ha ha

Seems I've heard alot of grumbling from Canadians lately about their lousy health care system. Since Congress is ever anxious to follow the paths of failure, I expect they will take us there once again. Why can't we seem to get rid of these anti-American politicians?

(Anyone who thinks socialized medicine is such a hot idea should be made to spend some time in a country that has it.)

You are exactly right! I just had a long conversation with two people- one from Ireland, another from London.
Both expressed the utter failure of the socialized medicine system in their respective countries. One noted his daughter was told it would be 6-8 weeks for orthopedic x-rays despite her being unable to walk on the leg. Another example was the 8 week wait for breast cancer treatment for a cousin. There were several examples and the irony of the conversation was the fact they they both have since purchased private health insurance. In fact, they said that many people are now working two jobs so they can afford private health care coverage. (in addition to the higher taxes socialized medicine caused) Now they pay high taxes for a failed national health care system and also buy private health insurance so their families are properly covered and cared for.
