I hope he can retain his seat in the legislature when he runs. He's as close as we get to a good conservative base for a Republican revival in this sorry state, and his chances against Kerry aren't good. He'd be an excellent candidate nonetheless and might leverage this into a run for governor in 2010.

But if we lose him as a senator, we could be down to 4 Republican senators out of 40.

Any chance for past Governors to challenge sKerry like Weld or Paul Celucci?

If he gets his daughter out on the stump for him ,he might garner the votes of the idiots who watch American Idol.
She was in the final group. In addition, his wife, Gail Huff, is a reporter with one of the Boston TV stations. At least he would come into the race with a slightly elevated profile.
