Bay State Republicans are circling like vultures around a politically weakened John Kerry, vowing to field a strong challenger that may be able to capitalize on his fractured image and snatch his coveted U.S. Senate seat.
One potential GOP challenger, state Sen. Scott Brown, said last night that he "would consider" a run against Kerry in 2008 and that the senator is ripe for the picking.
"I think he'll get a challenge this time. I don't think he'll get a free ride," Brown (R-Wrentham) said. "His handling of himself during this Iraq situation has been outrageous. He needs to be held accountable. Whether Im the guy to do it or someone else, I think people are tired of his poor representation."
Wounded by bad press over his "botched" Iraq joke and rock-bottom poll numbers, Kerry opted not to make a run for the Oval Office in 2008, telling his colleagues on the Senate floor yesterday, "This isn't the time for me to mount a presidential campaign."

I wish Romney would abandon the presidential run and take out Kerry instead.
That is a great idea! I think that perhaps a Senator would be Romney’s next step. He still can run for president later. He is only 60.
Just to be up-to-date, I said that in January.
It seems clear now Romney couldn’t win in Mass., he’s too conservative. Anyway, I’m supporting him for President now, at least he’s my first choice.
This brings back memories, it took a long time for me to decide to support him.
Ted Kennedy has offered to drive any Republican voter on the Cape to the polls in his own car! He knows every shortcut. Just get in. Now that my friend, is sportsmanship.
I am hanging on with Duncan Hunter. Truly the only one I don’t want is Rudy and actually Ron Paul too. Any other one I would vote for in the General. I guess it was wishful thinking on my part to rid of Kerry!!!!
That's Massachusetts, where a homo child molester was resoundingly re-elected. Where a sitting congressman had a homosexual escort service operating out of his home. Where a sitting senator caused a young woman to die a horrible death of asphyxiation. These people were each resoundingly re-elected. In Massachusetts.
BTW, in re Deval Patrick: The Democrat pols of Massachusetts really really love this guy because this man is so preternaturally stupid that they can do whatever the hell they want, steal whatever they want, and hire all their relatives to do the same with no need to fear any action against them. He's in for life. And Massachusetts is in for a continued downward spiral that will spin off even the marginally semiuseful citizens (known throughout New England as "Massholes") into neighboring states so we can all share their pain and ignorance and deepen our own economic nosedives.
ah well, no one ever said the republic would last forever, now did they?
