There's a neat experiment you can do...

Take a lead from a mechanical pencil and place it on a (disposable - it will be damaged) glass dish. Pop it in the microwave and turn it on.

It will burn on the ends with a bright white light (carbon arc) until the lead burns down to 1/4 wavelength of the microwave frequency, then it will stop burning.

After it cools, you can measure what's left, and compute the frequency of the microwave oven.
