For what do you need a sterilized sponge at all?
You don't need to sterilize anything at home,
except you got AIDS or something like that.
I clean my dishes with a really ugly looking sponge. I think more than 2 years in use. Unhealthy you may think but I just scratch the dirt away and afterwards dip the dish under water to get rid of the soap.
Most of the time I use the dishwasher.
Well, the author of the original article didn't mentioned to wet the sponge. So I tried it for 3 minutes with the lowest available power setting on my microwave with an additional glass of water. After that my sponge still looked dirty but maybe was sterilized. So what?
