I read about this a year or so ago. The paper I read said this algae could be grown in the effluent of wastewater treatment plants piped to shallow ponds in desert areas. The paper claimed an area the size of Rhode Island would produce enough bio-diesel to fuel the existing U.S. diesel vehicle fleet. May have been a bit hyped.
