Former New York City mayor and potential presidential hopeful Rudolph Giuliani began an hour-and-a-half-long speech in Sarasota on Tuesday by poking fun at the organization founded to help maintain international law.
Giuliani told the nearly 1,700 audience members, some of whom paid up to $600 to hear him speak as part of this year's Ringling School Library Association Town Hall Lecture Series, a story about his first months as mayor.
He had taken to calling New York "the capital of the world" as he worked his constituency. This, he said, generated letters from other mayors around the country wondering who awarded New York that title. One of them asked if the United Nations had passed a resolution bestowing the honor on the Big Apple.
"This is before we knew the United Nations can't pass resolutions," Giuliani told the audience.
(((PING))))
Immigration politics have similarly harmed New York. Former mayor Rudolph Giuliani sued all the way up to the Supreme Court to defend the citys sanctuary policy against a 1996 federal law decreeing that cities could not prohibit their employees from cooperating with the INS. Oh yeah? said Giuliani; just watch me. The INS, he claimed, with what turned out to be grotesque irony, only aims to terrorize people. Though he lost in court, he remained defiant to the end. On September 5, 2001, his handpicked charter-revision committee ruled that New York could still require that its employees keep immigration information confidential to preserve trust between immigrants and government. Six days later, several visa-overstayers participated in the most devastating attack on the city and the country in history. He's a disgrace and a phony!New York conveniently forgot the 1996 federal ban on sanctuary laws until a gang of five Mexicansfour of them illegalabducted and brutally raped a 42-year-old mother of two near some railroad tracks in Queens. The NYPD had already arrested three of the illegal aliens numerous times for such crimes as assault, attempted robbery, criminal trespass, illegal gun possession, and drug offenses. The department had never notified the INS.
Wait wait wait: there's a federal ban on sacntuary laws?! Is this ever actually enforced?!
So. He is still an unelectable lineral rino.
Me made a joke about the UN and we're supposed to believe that is his actual feeling on the subject. Where is his record of being against the UN?
Say what you will....you always do...but at least Rudy is showing leadership...which we still have yet to see the rats exhibit or the RINOs.
What's the source of that quote?
If Rudy really knew his place in life, he would have challenged Hillary for her seat.
He has always shown leadership. My problem is at least on social issues his leadership is towards the left and that is why he is one of the three people mentioned for the rep noomination I could never vote for. I do not vote for liberals.
So be it. We vote for leaders.
Take a look at Duncan Hunter. His leadership was formed as and officer in the US Army Rangers.
I think McCain shot himself in the foot, yesterday, as I knew he would. He trashed Cheney and Rumsfeld. There is only Sun City golf carts in his future, now.
Who says Hitlery will win the nomination. My money is she will not.
Better lay off that crack pipe a little.
McPain has been shooting himself in the foot on a consistent basis since 2001.
