An Excellent Economic State of the Union
RealClearPolitics.com ^ | January 24, 2007 | By Lawrence Kudlow

Parsing through a dozen or so newspapers and websites this morning, I was stunned not to find a single reference to the very strong economic state of the union.

...snip.....

I did manage to find one article, buried deep in The Wall Street Journal, titled "Class of '07 Gets Plenty of Job Offers." It talked about employers planning to hire 17 percent more graduates this year than they did last year. This happens to top the college-hiring peak of the last economic boom in 2000. There's also an interesting op-ed by Deputy Treasury Secretary Bob Kimmet (an old friend with lots of supply-side blood in his veins), who notes the positives of "job churn." More than 55 million Americans, or four out of every 10 workers, left their jobs in 2005. Since there were more than 57 million new hires that same year, this is good news. It also means that new hires exceeded employee separations by an average of 364,000 per month. Per month! Eat your heart out, Lou Dobbs.

Only 4 million new jobs a year! It's a quagmire!

Larry Kudlow is a good troop.

If Bill Clinton were still president, he would be crowing, positively crowing about the US economy.

But, alas, it is still Bush's fault.

Gee. What a surprise.

Mr. Kudlow is correct: I too have looked: Not a SINGLE reference to the superbness and soundness of the American Economy.

The President has said we, the US, has what it needs to boost education, boost healthcare, boost the troops, stave off "global warming", deal with illegal immigration in comprehensive ways -- we have the intelligence, the skills, and the FUNDS to do so.

But not a single news item about the greatness of the current economy.

Very revealing, and good on Mr. Kudlow to note this in print.

Doesn't help there are hordes of "conservatives" talking down the economy as well.

Sometimes, I really do wonder about this.

And then other days, I think back to a passage in a Pearl S. Buck book whereby a couple with their newborn daughter, scream out to the winds that the child is ugly and pitiful; but only to protect her from the "gods" who would be jealous of her beauty and seek to harm the baby.

And then there are obvious "ones" calling themselves conservatives, decrying this excellent economy, while thinking no one ever reads back issues of their negative views on most everything Republican and/or conservative. ;> Perhaps their lower backbrains have not been developed? Empathy not well developed, service to others not well developed?

The Right and the GOP have been known to shoot their wounded and in '08 that will be fatal.
