Are you jealous?
Or do you just like to pay lots of taxes?
My insurance plan is quite good, and I'm pretty sure I'd be one of those who would have my taxes increase under the plan.
My personal opinion is that we shouldn't have employer-sponsored health care plans. People should buy their own plans, that way the people USING the plans would choose them, and there would be a better connection between costs and use.
I think republicans should be for lower taxes, and fewer targetted tax breaks. Health care should not get special treatment, but if it is we should control the amount of special treatment given so as to spread out the benefits to a larger class of people.
Right now, if you don't have employee health care, you pay for your health care with post-tax dollars. If I have to pay taxes on some of what my employee PAYS me that I direct to health care insurance so that others can get the same tax break for purchasing their own health insurance, that seems a fair thing to do. Tax breaks SHOULD be as widely available as possible, and applied as broadly as possible.
But if the specific implementation isn't what you like, we can at least have a serious debate about the issue, rather than just be all huffy about losing our special tax breaks. At least that's how I feel about it.
