Sam Brownback for pres
Sam Brownback

Posted on 01/23/2007 4:40:16 PM PST by dudewheresmytank

Dear Friend,

I have decided, after much prayerful consideration, to consider a bid for the Republican nomination for the presidency.

I am running to spread hope and ideas. We are a blessed nation at an important crossroads. War, corruption, disintegrating families, and for some, hopelessness, tear at the American Dream. We need hope and ideas.

I am running for America…to be of service in a crucial time of trial.

Ours is an exceptional nation. A nation between two oceans made up of people from every nation on earth. A great nation united by our ideals. But we are a great nation because of our goodness. If we ever lose our goodness, we will surely lose our greatness.

We believe in a culture of life—that every human life is a beautiful, sacred, unique child of a loving God.

We believe in justice for all—at all times.

We believe in liberty.

But the central institutions that best transmit these values—the family and the culture—are under withering attack.

We must renew our families and rebuild our culture!

We need to revitalize marriage, support the formation of families, and encourage a culture of commitment.

We need a culture that encourages what is right and discourages what is wrong—and has the wisdom to understand the difference.

Each generation of Americans is called upon to carry the torch of virtue during its brief season. If one generation lets the torch fall, its light is extinguished for all future generations. That’s a big responsibility, but we can achieve it if we pick up the torch with courage, generosity, and realism. We must meet and fulfill the job we are called to accomplish in our day. The time to act to insure our future as a nation is now.

Problems abound. The federal government wastes and spends too much. We lack compassionate yet practical programs to help the poor here and around the world. We need energy independence and alternative, clean-burning, domestic-grown fuels. The scourge of cancer has killed too many and must be stopped. We need term limits for judges and members of Congress like we have for the President. We need a flat tax instead of the dreadful, incomprehensible tax code we now have.

And we need humility.

While I am proud to be an American, when I consider my citizenship and the responsibilities it carries today in the light of eternity, I am more humbled by it. We have been given much and will be held to account for what we have been given.

I ask mostly for your prayers. Pray for America, that our division as a people might end and that our land be healed.

Thank you for your interest and support. Thank you for your prayers. Please join our campaign of national renewal and hope for the future!

God Bless you, and God Bless this nation we love so dearly,

Who defeated Asian Imperialism and Facism in Europe?

Who kept Communism at bay in NE and SE Asia?

Who defeated the Soviet Union?

Who brought freedom to 50M+ Muslims?

Who's blood and treasure is being spent everyday to keep the Free World free, Sam??

We're hosed. Say 'hello' to president Obama.

The republicans have absolutely nothing to offer this election.

That's because the media wants the 2008 Republican candidate to be moderate or liberal so our party is divided. That's why they are always pushing for McCain and Giuliani.

Duncan Hunter:

Tom Tancredo:

Also, Mitt Romney is a liar and a phoney. He's not a real conservative.

Yadda yadda yadda. He did a smart thing by snuggling up close to conservative leaders by heading up the VAT team meetings in the Senate and THAT is why you are hearing about him at all. But I am telling you, he is a disaster...a disaster -- and it is on more than issues about feds interfering with churches.

And yes, with close family serving on the front lines in Iraq, you bet I have a problem with a "Republican" not only undercutting our Commander in Chief in his efforts on the War on Terror, but also putting our soldiers at tremendous risk with his foolish statements.

I do not believe for one minute he is the best we are going to get and frankly I am damned sick and tired of holding my nose and voting because it is "the best we are going to get." I just don't believe that.

He is not a conservative and I am worn out with people posing as conservatives who clearly, demonstrably are not --but pretend to be for political advantage.

Hell, I want Santorum to come back and run in '08.

Take away his one original sin (backing Spectre instead of Toomy like he was backed into by Bush) and he is the best mouthpiece and the closest thing to conservative leadership than I've seen in years coming from DC.

i gotta say you're right, those guys sound great. it's a shame i hadn't heard of them before. I was prepared for a dem or a RINO because Brownback has no chance. i'm trying to look at it realistically, but hunter sounds pretty good. if he can get conservatives who are gonna "teach" republicans a lesson to vote for him, he could win.

Yeah, I liked Santorum as well. Wasn't he like the 2nd most powerful person in the Senate?

I saw him on TV the other day, though, and he said he doesn't have any plans to run for president.

For all those illegals who Sam supports.

Santorum was one of the best members of the Senate, bar none. He was in the leadership because he was head of the Senate Republican Conference, which is the communications branch for Republicans in the Senate.

I have never seen a man work harder on an issue that was near and dear to my heart -- judicial nominations -- and get so little credit (or care about the credit) for it. It was awesome to see him post 3 PM or so...you could pretty much bet there would be at least a couple of Santorum kids around the office or he'd leave the office with a kid on his hip to watch a soccer game for an older one, etc.

He also went to Mass every morning. (I am not a Catholic, but as a Christian, I was impressed with his spiritual devotion as well.)

Head and shoulders above most elected officials. A true loss to the Senate.

do you have any idea how many republicans don't support the war anymore. they figure it's not good for votes, but if you read the letter he seems proud to be an American, someone i hope would continue the war on terror if elected. politicians lie for votes thats what they do

It is a shame that many conservatives haven't heard of Hunter, or Tancredo. They don't have much name recognition right now. I seriously that changes over the next one and a half years.

One thing I like about Brownback is that he is a staunch pro-lifer (now I realize I can't support him because of his views on immigration and Iraq). But Duncan Hunter, in addition to being great on the border and Iraq, is a staunch pro-lifer as well. He attended the March for Life yesterday. I was overjoyed when I read that.

Hunter also has a son who went to Iraq and he is himself a Vietnam veteran. I say we put all our support behind this guy!
