"...electronic voting machines broke down in several polling places, frustrating some voters who left without casting a ballot. Supervisor Jeff Stone complained he could not get results online until the wee hours of the next morning. And election watchdog group Save-R-Vote of Temecula Valley reported that electronic voting units were left unattended in some locations before the election and could have been tampered with..."

When any American is deprived of the right to vote, it is an issue for all Americans.

The fight for representation in government initiated so courageously by the founders of the United States of America is ongoing today. Real American patriots require real ballots.

We need receipts. Every American should be able to call or get on line to see how their vote was counted. There is no accountability. A person could lose but still end up being a Congressman, Senator or even president. I also think all the votes should be counted and sealed before any results posted. No more pocket votes. No votes should be accepted after a count turned in and if later more votes found, someone gets to go to jail.

"...real ballots"

I hope you're not talking about paper ballots. The democrats long ago perfected the art of fraudulently manipulating the results of paper ballot elections.

oh no ...a machine broke down ? machines break down.

the voters walked away, they weren't deprived.

a machine left unattended is the machines fault ?

so what's the point of your thread again ?
oh..if I don't have a paper ballot I'm not a REAL AMERICAN patriot.

right...gotcha.

You make some really excellent points, CindyDawg. You wrote:

I totally agree with you about seeing how the votes are counted. You are right that only our real choices should end up in office. Elections laws must be enforced. The corrupt Democrats in PA claim that receipts would be used in vote-selling scams, but they're coming from a position of corruption.

Scientific studies done by computer experts who were hoping to confirm the superiority of electronic 'voting' actually determined that paper ballots, for all their known flaws, are actually more reliable and secure than the electronics. That tells us just how bad those electronic systems really are.

"National Geographic" did an article on it:

Many machines broke down. Others lost, switched, and faked votes. Many Americans are hardworking employed people who have to do their jobs every day, even election days, and it is wrong to force them to lose more than a minimum of work time to vote. How long would you want to see Americans forced to wait in line to vote because the electronics are so unreliable? Is 3 hours acceptable to you? How about 6? Do you dislike all Americans or just those who vote?

The point is that the machines are unreliable and vulnerable, and also that valid elections are something which patriotic Americans have traditionally sought, for very important reasons, throughout the history of this great country.

Thanks. This weeks to months regarding who won is garbage too. America should know who is President within hours after the votes are in.

Yes, CindyDawg, you're right again. Electronics can be used for rapid preliminary tabulations even though they're not sufficiently reliable or secure for the official results. There's also a huge difference between opscans which can be checked independently via the physical paper ballots and which allow voters to complete their ballots rapidly and conveniently even when they fail, versus DRE machines which don't allow anyone to vote when they fail and can't be audited.

nope...that's not what your linked story said...so you are not entitled to embellish facts of that story.

it didn't mention how many machines were broke.

It didn't mention the machines were down all voting day.
it didn't mention how long voters waited.
Voters left..it didn't say they didn't vote..it didn't mention if they came back.

how long to wait ? let's compare it to those who waited to get a purple thumb.

nice try...but no cigar.
try again

and you will in a minute...

I suggest that you reread the article.

Multiple machines failed. When they fail, no one can vote.

Why don't you want Americans to be able to vote?

nope...you are embellishing it again

During the Nov. 7 election, electronic voting machines broke down in several polling places,...

1 machine per polling place ? all the machines at all polling places ? all day long ? it didn't say they only had machines...

again...nice try

There was no embellishment. Multiple machines failed, according to the article.

Machines failed many other places, too.

The unreliability (and vulnerability) of those systems has been mentioned by such as NIST and the GAO.

Colorado: Denver District Court denied a request from state Democratic Party lawyers for a two-hour extension for voting in Denver County. Brian Mason of the Colorado Democratic Party said poll books weren't ready when the polls opened, forcing many voters to wait in long lines. Many voters left without voting because the sites ran out of provisional ballots, Mason said, which are used in case of such an emergency. Missouri: Five counties ran out of ballots, according to Stacie Temple of the secretary of state's office. Election officials made photocopies of ballots, which Temple says is acceptable for election authorities. The ballots will have to be hand-counted. St. Louis County Election Board Chairman John Diehl called judges at two precincts to remind them of rules regarding acceptable forms of voter identification. Diehl said he received reports from a monitoring group that workers at two polling places were asking voters for photo ID. The Missouri Supreme Court declared state photo ID laws unconstitutional on October 16. New Mexico: There was a ballot shortage at two precincts in Bernalillo County, which includes Albuquerque, according to Ray Baray, New Mexico's deputy secretary of state. In one precinct only 150 ballots were delivered for 2,000 registered voters. Baray said that for about two hours Tuesday people were unable to vote because of the shortage. He suspects the ballots came up short because someone left off a zero in the number of ballots to be sent. Voters need a choice. Being denied a chance to cast a vote for lack of a paper ballot is unacceptable.

You have really hit the nail on the head, Reform4Bush!

One of the many problems with the electronics, most specifically the DRE (Direct Recording Electronic) systems, is that when they fail - and they fail quite often - nobody gets to vote. They can also fail in such ways that the voters are led to believe that they have voted when they have not in fact had their votes recorded as cast. That has happened many thousands of times already.

Thank you for your insights, as always.

Can you tell me what other subject we could discuss that would be anything but moot once we have given up our right to representation in government?

Without your vote, your opinions don't mean anything.
