when I'm going by someone on a bike, I do give a small "honk" on the horn when I'm about 50 feet behind and ready to pass..just to let them know I'm there and not to do anything stupid like pull out in front of me..I then pass in the opposite LANE and get as far away from them as possible, just in case they DO do something stupid..

Heh, You'd still get the muscle-memory reflexive finger telling you that you are #1. I usually can see the oncoming traffic in my rear-view.

Just to clarify my earlier entry... usually when I get honks, the intent is not friendly. On rare occasions, I've flipped off co-workers that were trying to say "hello". Extreme unction.. yours wasn't by mistake, tho. heh
