"If you can go toe-to-toe with liberals in Massachusetts and New York City and acquit yourself well, you are prepared for D.C.," said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform.
**
Mead credits Giuliani with mental toughness rare among elected officials. Instead of seeking consensus, Giuliani openly defied many of the city's leading liberals on crime and welfare reform.
"Giuliani confronted not only the bureaucracy, but the community groups and the academics and the journalists and all those who said you couldn't be tough on the poor," Mead said. "He said that you can be you can demand that they play by the rules. And he got away with it."
**
"It's very difficult for such a person to win Republican primaries," said Jack Pitney, a professor of politics at Claremont McKenna College.
Difficult, but not impossible, Norquist said. As an example, he pointed to Ronald Reagan.
"Reagan passed the most liberal abortion laws in the country and the most liberal divorce laws in the country as governor (of California), and then ran as the pro-life, social-conservative presidential candidate," Norquist said.

Giuliani's sharp-edge personality is another wild card. He sometimes rubs people, especially journalists, the wrong way.
On the other hand, his toughness might appeal to like-minded conservatives.
"A nice person couldn't have done what Giuliani did in New York," Mead said. "You needed a pit bull. Giuliani is a pit bull."

I have some Democrat friends who are going to vote for Rudy. They have NOT forgotten the leadership he showed in NYC. That's a big criteria for the. We don't get along politically all the time but they do appreciate leadership like I do.
Well Rudy isn't the only male in the field, otherwise you'd have a good point.
Sadly, after watching enough races I'm pretty well convinced that more women will vote for a woman on the basis of her being a woman than there are men who will vote against a woman for being a woman.
Between that and the fact that Dem turnout is highly reliable and predictable (while GOP turnout is much more volatile) this doesn't seem all that doable.
Assuming he wins the nomination -- if it comes down to Rudy v. Hillary, Rudy wins.
Nope. It's from a NYC Gay Pride parade. The same annual parade that Rudy Giuliani marched in while he was mayor - to include one year that included a NAMBLA contingent.
Your obsession with Gays is amazing.
I have no obsession with gays. But Judy Riuliani sure does:
I doubt it.
I quite betting against the ruthless cunning of the Clinton machine years ago.
And Hillary will have Donna Hanover out there so much, you'd think she was the running mate.
I can tell you never lived in NYC or a any city with a very large gay population. EVERY SINGLE MAYOR OF NYC marches in the Gay Pride parade! Try being Mayor of NYC and not march in it! As much as I don't like the parade and never go to it to watch it - it is one of the biggest parades here. Senators, Congressmen and Mayors march in the parade. That doesn't mean a DAMN thing except to you people obsessed with gays.
I truly doubt that BEEEYATCH (Ms. Vagina Monologues) Donna Hanover will be out there. She now has her own Sex Talk Show on Radio. Do you really think anyone wants to deal with her? I doubt it.
Sad, ain't it?
Every politician goes to these functions.
It means that Rudy Giuliani tacitly endorses the raw debauchery on display in the parade. When you speak of politicians (Senators, Congressmen) marching in the gay parades, you are speaking of Shumer, Clinton, Rangel, etc. All liberal Democrats. Fitting company for Rudy.
Rudy also associated with and supported various radical gay groups such as the Stonewall Vets, Gay Price New York, etc. He hosted fundraisers, parties, breakfasts, etc.
The only person obsessed with gays here is Giuliani who hasn't met a radical gay agenda item or deviant behavior that he wouldn't support.
And why has Giuliani participated in gay pride events since leaving office?
Every liberal, radical gay agenda supporting politician goes to these functions.
There. Fixed it for you.
Wants to hear from her? No.
But after months of unavoidable whining, swing voters will conclude they can't tolerate 4 years of Donna's whining.
He hasn't - those were events when he was in office and NOT when he was finished with his term. YOU JUST PROVED MY POINT!! IT'S A REQUIREMENT AND TRADITION FOR THE MAYOR OF NYC TO MARCH IN THE GAY PARADE AND TO HAVE EVENTS FOR THEM. They are and were citizens of NYC - you don't exclude them if you are a politician here in NYC. If you do you do so to your determent. He was a mayor for all the people not just heterosexuals. You have a problem with that? Rudy doesn't do it now because he has no desire to. That was part of his job as mayor. He is no longer mayor so he is not required to do so.
She also has a regular morning show on WOR radio with a side kick (they are on the same time as Curtis & Kuby).
He didn't have to. It was not a job requirement. He chose to do it. You imply that he did it reluctantly, only because he had to do it as mayor. His other behavior and support for the radical gay agenda exposes that as a lie.
He was a mayor for all the people, to include the NAMBLA people. Should he have participated in their events? Oh wait, we was there in the NYC gay parade along with the NAMBLA contingent, so I guess, in a way, he did. And what you're saying is that, if by some horrible chance he's elected President, that he'll be the "President of all people" and you'll have no problem with a Republican President marching in a gay pride parade?
And just how sure are you that he's stayed away from gay events, to include the gay pride debauchery on display parade since leaving office? What are you willing to wager on that one?
W. had a gay speak at his first convention.
ALL politicians do it.
I agree totally.
