Many can't afford propane, activist says :
BATON ROUGE -- Hurricane victims, living in FEMA trailers near Baton Rouge for more than 17 months, told a legislative panel Monday that some residents are going without heat in near-freezing weather because they cannot afford to pay for propane for their temporary homes.
Wilbert Ross, president of Katrina Rebirth Promise Land Inc., an organization that represents about 3,500 residents dislodged from their New Orleans homes by Hurricane Katrina, said the federal government last April cut off a food service and vouchers to pay for propane to heat the trailers, cook food and heat water for people living in the Renaissance Village trailer park in Baker.
With temperatures that have dipped below freezing recently and are expected to hover in the 30s this week, Ross said, the state should help pay for the propane.

17 MONTHS!!!!
Put on some fema jackets
Quagmire!
Aaaaah. Poor babies. Hey! I live in Tucson, AZ and we are freezing here. No one expected such cold weather as what we are receiving. My most recent gas bill is $275.00. I say that I should get reimbursed by FEMA and Bush. After all, it's their fault. Don't believe me? Ask Gore.
I would think that with rebuilding going on, there should be some jobs there. Am I wrong?
Darn it, I know I left my violin lying around here somewhere.
These people most likely had no heat or air-conditioning before Katrina, and probably aren't used to this after leaving the Ritz-Carlton in Houston...
I bet finding money for beer and cigs is not a problem!

.....I guess they can always torch the big screen.
You are correct. I have several friends who work construction that have been down there for awhile. Working 10-14 hrs a day and making excellent money.
The folks mentioned in this article are the lazy people who have come to depend on the government for just about everything. I'm sure an honest day's work is totally repugnant to them.
don't forget the lottery tickets and those little "rocks".
Why are we paying for their trailer? Where did they get that TV? WTF is wrong with this country?
