God's design continues to baffle and make man change their silly little assumptions about evolution.
Ever learning but never coming to a knowledge of the truth.

You're so right - we definately should stop working hard to understand anything that is complex in nature, and sit in an arm chair declaiming "God musta done it!"

The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) supported the work.AFOSR, my old outfit (two tours of duty there, in the Mathematics Directorate). Looks like they've gone batty. It won't be long before some congresscritter is complaining about this research. We were always defending some esoteric bit of research to congresscritters looking for a headline. Never mind that our research paid off many times over in better materials, better rockets, etc.

My deepest apologies. I often forget I have to simplify my vocabulary when in discussions with creationists.

Micro-UAVs are a huge focus of development and creating an energy-efficient means of really long flight duration could, conceivably, involve a flapping wing setup down the road.

Kenneth Breuer and Sharon Swartz are determined to understand the detailed aerodynamics of bat flight and ultimately the evolutionary path that created it.
Hopefully they do the first part before the second part. That way if they run out of funding, the important part will have been completed.

We were always defending some esoteric bit of research to congresscritters looking for a headline. Never mind that our research paid off many times over in better materials, better rockets, etc. But how many times didn't it provide anything.
We need to adequately research our research projects before we start the research, in order to prevent financial waste and wasting time researching things that would be a waste of research. Especially that if while researching our research, we could find more useful things to research. Thereby never having to look back and realizing that time and money would have been better spent researching something else.

The problem here is substantial: all government spending is first made possible by "defunding" a taxpayer, and there is never, ever, any concern shown for what he was planning to do with his own money.
Fans of big and Bigger government foolishly assume that only government can spend money wisely and with guaranteed results. They dare not compare the results of government R & D with those of private industry.
To be fair, private industry doesn't have a big market for tanks and nuclear weapons, so some government R & D is necessary. But for anything not tied to national defense, stop coercing the taxpayers to pay for any of this research.
To put it simply: does this research rise to the level of importance that its funding must be secured by sending armed federal agents? I don't think so. But that is exactly what we do when we tax citizens.
