A Senate source complains (expletives of disbelief omitted):
the Democrats have offered a substitute amendment (Reid Amendment # 100) to the minimum wage bill. The substitute amendment is basically the Finance Committee bill. But guess what’s not in there: American Samoa. They include the Marianas Islands, but American Samoa, even after Tunagate, is still not in there.

Having lived here 10 years, minimum wage would kill this island.

I don't think that the minimum wage should be raised for *anyone*, much less for American Samoa, but the Democrats need to be forced to argue (correctly, for once) that raising the minimum wage in American Samoa will cause jobs to move outside of the U.S., and then try to explain why they care about jobs in American Samoa but not jobs in the rest of the U.S.
