That was the conclusion of the authorities and the jury. They made no record of having shot at the guy in the ass as he was running away, they policed up their ammo and went about their business.

Now, while I certainly don't care for trigger happy cops who lie and think that the laws don't apply to them, I think that our government bears some reponsibility for its lax border policy and refusal to do anything about stopping the invasion.

Of which three are saying they were coerced and not willing to convict.

That one I'll give you, but then it's just a violation of policy and not a violation of law. They should be fired, not imprisoned.

Agreed. It sounds hypocritical for Bush to come out with a statement, through Tony Snow, saying that the law must be obeyed even by the border agents(paraphrased) all the while ignoring the oath he swore to uphold the law.

Exactly. Government inaction has, in effect, created an atmosphere where doing ones job will guarantee punishment, imprisonment and the destruction of family solely on the word of a criminal. What kind of action can we now expect from our border control agents when the chips are down in a confrontation? Do I shoot and risk the future and welfare of me and my family or do I just walk away, end my shift and put in my time toward retirement?
