HILLARY CLINTON is to be presented as America’s Margaret Thatcher as she tries to become the first woman to win the White House. As she entered the 2008 presidential race yesterday, a senior adviser said that her campaign would emphasise security, defence and personal strengths reminiscent of the Iron Lady.
“Their policies are totally different but they are both perceived as very tough,” said Terry McAuliffe, Clinton’s campaign chairman. “She is strong on foreign policy. People have got to know you are going to keep them safe.” Clinton, 59, used her website to announce that she was taking the first step of her campaign by forming a presidential exploratory committee. “I’m in. And I’m in to win,” she said. It made the New York senator the instant frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. “She has the name recognition, the money, the glitz, she’s got it all,” McAuliffe said.

How much can we count on Hillary's ruthlessness?
Mark Steyn addresses an argument one hears a lot these days -- that Hillary Clinton will be tough on terrorists because she's been tough on political opponents and others (think White House travel office) who stand in her way. Steyn disagrees:
I yield to no-one in my respect for the Clintons’ ruthless brutal demolition of Newt, and that guy who succeeded Newt for 20 minutes, and Gennifer and Kathleen and all the rest. But there’s no evidence to suggest either Clinton has any interest in applying these techniques to tougher adversaries beyond these shores. There’s a world of difference between the politics of personal destruction and the geostrategic kind. Beating up breast-cancer survivors [the reference is to Elizabeth Edwards] is no indication you’ll do the same to Ahmadinejad or Kim Jong-Il.
I'm far from convinced that Hillary would fight terrorism with the same abandon she fights the vast right-wing conspiracy. However, her ruthless nature might at least translate well enough to make her tougher on terrorists than the other Democratic contenders. Ask yourself which contender would be most likely to approve the next terrorist surveillance program or harsh interrogation tactic. My money is on Hillary.

Cannot ever get people like this off their 'ultimate power triip'. . .of course; it is not what Hillary can do for her Country; but rather what her Country can do for her. Not enough money in the world to get her off the power-train. . .
If I eve see a 'Support the Troops' sticker along side a Hillary - or any Demrat name, for that matter - I will be responsible for my actions. . .

When I read Thatcher in the same sentence with Hilary, I think of garden variety "de-Thatcher" - yard equipment used to "de-Thatch" a lawn.
She'll choke the life out of us like Thatch chokes the life out of my lawn.
What amazes me about this development is that this is an absolute naked grab for power. Her only qualification for
president is her name recognition. To have used her status as the first lady to propel her into the mainstream of politics was unseemly. This woman is truly diabolical.
Thatcher is definitely a woman......a great woman.
Agree … and yet many will vote for her.
