Your pictures are so funny. Bringing her out as "the new Margaret Thatcher" makes me think of something that would go on in Hollywood - they are figuring out how to market some ditzy wannabee and give her a personna that will sell, like maybe the new Marilyn Monroe or the new Jane Russell.

Hillary as the new Margaret Thatcher lends itself so much to comedy that I think whoever thought this up must be real dumb (or else thinks we are).

I've seen lots of fences like that in the US, sold as garden wall panels. The way fences used to be made on the East Coast is much like England. Also, split rail fencing used to be the norm in sheep herding parts of England and America. Newer techniques such as wire fencing (barbed and hog wire) is the norm for modern America and Australia. Hedge rows and walls are more common in England and New England.

Having been stationed in various countries (including Colorado and some long stretches of duty in the UK) I'd say there's more in common architecturally and the way land and villages are laid out in the US and UK than with continental Europe. Having lived in Italy and Germany I can tell you hardly any farmer lives on the land on the continent but rather in villages and they go to their fields that may be a long way from their homes. Italians are real big on high walls around their homes and Germans like living cheek and jowl to one another as long as they can wall their gardens/backyards up. Only in America, Austrailia, New Zealand, Canada and the UK do you see folks spreading out and living on the land at their farmstead. It is our British tradition. Therefore the need for privacy fences is less here, more so in England (older and more thickly settled) but nothing like the continent where everyone has a wall.

I didn't call flowers because I couldn't make it out (As far as I know, it could be turned soil with that white stuff they put in, but who would film it there if it was). But I did make out towards the end (during the right pan under the table with pics, that bright greenery, not in Chappa, NY). I see I have to ping a horticulturist... um, who knows one?

Thanks for the reminder about "24", rodguy! I am new to watching it as it unfolds, so appreciate the reminder.

I lost the computer to my staying-overnight-grandson this morning, and have just no got back on line.

Bears game is keeping him occupied, along with my son-in-law. The rest of the family is napping, waiting for the Colts' game.

Excellent points. The Rats are like Bulls running loose in a china Shop after being penned up in close quarters for quite a while. The Rats have had to be together and pretend that they like each other and would not kill each other for a leadership power position. They are throwing out all caution and forgetting that they can just as easily lose the Majority again if they turn off the electorate like they are now. They are so mean and vicious, hysterical, shrieky sounding (not in manly ways) like they are all hormonally challenged, and could use an IV drip of estrogen. I have to turn these Women off, it is like eavesdropping in on a Shrink Session for Menopausal mental illness. Most of these women are past that stage of their lives. What gives?

Sick of it? Are today's Americans this pathetically weak and gutless? We took 6000 casualties in a single day, June 6th 1944. God only knows how many Americans died each MINUTE on Iowa Jima and NOW after a bare 3000 casualties in 4 YEARS of war you are sick of it? Well time to wake up children. This is not some sort of game you can all resign from just cause it is starting to bore or upset you.


Get over yourselves. This is NOT about how YOU feel. If Iraq bugs you all so much, just quit whining about it. YOUR kids are not there. Your friends and relatives are not there. It is a completely irrelevant thing to 95% of you. If you are all so emotionally tore up about it simply turn OFF the junk media and quit worrying about it. WE, the Guard dogs, will take care of the messy nasty world so you sheep do not have to be troubled by it.

Christ the country is finished. You all are simply not worth ONE more drop of blood from these kids.

The hell with all the self absorbed whinny cry babies. YOU people deserve a nuke or something to wake your self-absorbed whinny asses UP.

I see Newt as a good thinker. but when he gets into the public eye he is an opportunist. I won't support him in the primaries, but, alas, if he gets the nomination he will get my vote.
