as a Brit occasional observer, find this quite interesting. Looks like you've wanted this type of thing for years, but for one reason or another came to the conclusion that it wouldn't work, at least for the US.

Americans by tradition and nature don't trust most government organizations or programs.

That the states are undertaking to provide medical care is quite telling. Each state will use it to lure businesses to them. Unfortunately, rich states will get richer while pure states will continue on life support from the federal government.

He wants universal coverage, he insisted, but warns that government can't end up with the bill.

The "government" never get's the bill. The productive members of society get stuck with the bill one way or another. These plans will inevitably lead to more people to ride in the wagon while the rest of us pull.

My niece, for example, has no insurance. She is in the emergency room for anything and everything. She once took her son to the emergency room for a minor and temporary rash around his mouth that ended up being caused by his binky. It's insane.

Allow those of us who work in the ER to say to the non emergent ( after we have evaluated their complaint ) " will that be cash or credit?" , and a big chunk of that problem will vanish.

Listen jack, us "freeloading baby boomers" have been paying taxes,SS, Medicare and Medicaid through the a## for our entire lives and look to get squat from it. WE didn't pass the legislation that set up the Ponzi scheme, that was our elders. You Gen X/Yers will not have to worry about paying all your lives because the game is almost up.

Thanks for the compliment, Kozak. In some respects, I wish I were a Gen X/Y'er. I'm a boomer like yourself and deliberately wrote that line to see if I could attract some debate from the X/Yers, knowing that it might cause a bit of heartburn among my fellow boomers. Sorry for the extra antacids I caused you to take, but thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only voice on this site that defends the boomers from the slanderous assaults of the X/Y/Jones/Who-Are-We? generations!

Have a good one, FRiend.
