The grandson of "Hillside Strangler" Angelo Buono Jr. shot and wounded his grandmother before killing himself, police said Friday.
Christopher Buono, 20, was found dead Thursday inside an Orange County furniture store where his grandmother, Mary Castillo, worked, said Brea police Sgt. Darrin Devereux. Buono sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body, Devereux said.
Castillo, 67, had gunshot wounds to her head and chest and was taken to a hospital, where she was in stable condition Friday, Devereux said.
The motive was under investigation and an autopsy was pending.
Grandmother and grandson lived together in Fullerton. Castillo's telephone number was unlisted.
Castillo was once married to Angelo Buono, one of two men whose gruesome killings of girls and women in the 1970s terrorized Los Angeles. The couple had a son, Christopher's father.
Angelo Buono and his adoptive cousin, Kenneth Bianchi, were accused of kidnapping, raping, torturing and killing girls and women ranging in age from 12 to 28 during a four-month period in 1977 and 1978.
The two would pose as police officers while driving in their car at night, pull over an unsuspecting woman driver, then abduct her and take her back to Buono's suburban home.
The killings were known as the "Hillside Strangler" slayings because the victims' bodies were dumped on hillsides around the city.
Bianchi pleaded guilty to five of the murders and testified against Buono, who was found guilty of nine of 10 slayings and sentenced in November 1983 to life in prison.
Buono died in September 2002 after suffering a heart attack while sleeping in his prison cell. He was married four times. Bianchi remains in prison.
There's such a thing as bad genes, I guess. But there's also a force for real evil in the world.
Apple....tree
The sins of the fathers.
I can imagine knowing what your father did like that could really mess you up.
More delightful news from this family..it's the gift that keeps on giving.
But, thankfully, one less such.
Now if only it can be proven he's left no spawn behind...

It took me several reads of the story to figure out who was who in this sordid tale. Makes you wonder what the wife knew about the situation between her husband and their adopted nephew as the convicted criminals and if that presented motive for the grandson's behavior.
Was the wife behind the crime spree all along? Did she attempt to entice her grandson into the same line of thinking?
Peter Lorre's daughter, Catharine, was almost abducted by The Hillside Stranglers. She was stopped by the Stranglers, Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono, imitating policemen. When they found out she was Lorre's daughter, they let her go. She didn't realize that they were killers until after they were caught.
You so have your facts messed up.. read the article again. FYI she divorced Anthony before he was ever arrested. She lays in a hospital bed and you make ignorant comments... nice
wow
No comments were made ignoring anything. The adoptive cousin had also been convicted. Thanks for the info on the divorce, if accurate. I don't have reference similar to the link I provided youself for that additional info. Thanks.
