Supporters, Opponents Of Cuban Exile Militant Clash

(CBS4) MIAMI -- Opposing sides at a rally supporting anti-Castro militant Luis Posada Carilles as he faces a federal trial and possible deportation clashed violently Friday afternoon in Miami. As cameras captured the scene, the Posada supporters crossed the street and started attacking the Posada opponents.

Approximately 80 people had gathered at the Bay of Pigs Memorial on SW 8th Street in Miami to show their support for Posada about Noon Friday, playing music and showing flags and banners. The protesters urged people driving by to show their support for Posada, a former CIA operative who is suspected of plotting the bombing of a Cuban jetliner 30 years ago.

Posada was indicted in Texas last week on charges of lying when attempting to become a US citizen. He now faces deportation, if the US can find a country which will accept him. So far, no country has been willing to accept Posada, and supporters Friday urged he be allowed to stay.

While the first group demonstrated, a smaller group of about 30 people gathered across the street, and started yelling, calling Posada a terrorist. The situation quickly turned to violence, and as television camera captured the scene, the anti-Posada protesters ran across the street and began attacking the Posada supporters.

Blows were exchanged, and some protesters on both side appeared to have sustained minor injuries. Protesters were quickly separated, and both groups left the monument.

The pro-Posada gathering was organized by Miguel Saavedra, president of the anti-Castro group Vigilia Mambisa.

Posada was a Kennedy guy. He's screwed. I am amazed at the people that work for Hillary. They gotta know that one small mis-step and Ft. Marcy or a plane crash. Maybe a suicide of 3 shots to the back of the head.

Never trust Democrats with national security, ours or yours.

Democrats screwed this guy like they did the South Vietnamese and will screw the Iraqis.

The Bay of Pigs was one of the worst screwups by a president in American history. At least this guy tried to do his bit.
