Besides financial and political backing, there's also "teams" to sew up. If someone hasn't even one of these things RIGHT NOW, they aren't going to EVER going to get them.
Even in 1999, September was TOO LATE to begin getting it all together for the 2000 primary.

Precisely. And as I said above, Newt is a suicidal choice. He is perhaps the only GOP more reviled by the voter than hillary.
IMO, the one thing (other than the WOT) that we must focus on is this:
In our political system, we really have only 2 choices: Republican or Democrat. All the other candidates and options are mirages: If we vote 3rd party... or if we sit out the election... what we are really doing is placing a de facto vote for the Democrat. We mustn't delude ourselves. We mustn't allow the Left to play us like fiddles.
