yes, Steven Staynor. Tragically Steven died in a motorcycle accident after living such a troubled life.

I wish Steven's widow would come on TV and put rest people who question why Shawn didn't try and get away. Steven stayed for the same reason Shawn did, FEAR, Terror!

I'm not a doctor, but Stayner's death looks a lot like what one pshrink once called a "chronic suicide." No overt acts, but a self-destructive pattern of drugs, booze and other forms of risky behavior. The acts of someone who doesn't have the volition to try to end his life, but has just stopped caring whether he lives or not.

Stayner is the clearest case -- one case can only support so many conclusions, of course -- of the long-term impact of a prolonged abduction, and it's not a pretty picture. I hope the professionals have learned from Stayner, that they can offer help now that they couldn't then, and that Shawn finds a way to a better fate and a happy life.
