I do think the parents should back off the interviews for Shawn's sake. He needs to slide quietly back into his life. Having said that though, I should not judge, 'cause I have no idea how I would handle the situation.

I had someone just this morning say that no one knows for sure he was kidnapped and something fishy about not calling home. He said Shawn could have been a run away. I have never wanted to smack someone so bad.

Many adult women stay in relationships that are life threatening. They know the fear of what an obessed person can do. If an adult can't leave out of fear, how can one expect a 11 year old child to try and leave. By the time the child is 15 he has completely been under the control of the kidnapper.

When you have seen what someone is capable of, you probably are going to believe them if they threaten to kill you and all you love.

People like that are very manipulative and are very good at playing the control game. I used to know a woman like that and she scared me.

Lastly though, I get so frustrated at the people who just can't seem to help themselves, from turning something so wonderful into something horrid. Once again, the victim is made out to be baaaaaaaddddddd. Can people not just rejoice and be happy for this child and the family, without trying to find fault somehow. Must be horrible living a life that everything has to have evil in it.

I am just still celebrating the return of these two young people. The bench with Shawn's picture at Schnuck's now says "Found Alive" That is good enough for me. Praise God

If you're going to blame BOR then, blame America. This sort of situation, with child predators or abusive spouses controlling the lives of others will continue. America has become a weak-kneed, lilly-livered society who would rather have the Gov or the courts decide what's best for them and how they should live their own lives. The PC generation, with it's "don't offend anyone or stick up for your own rights" mentality, has brought Americans down to the level of *victims*. We'll all continue to be *victims*, abused and raped by all those We put above us, until We decide enough is enough.

I agree that BOR comments were out of line. I also think that the family was acting against their sons best interest by putting him on Oprah less than a week after he was rescued.

This situation reminds me of a movie I watched named "I Know My Name is Steven" where boys were kidnapped by the same man but at different times through the years and how Steven behaved after reuniting with his family many years later.

Four months after his disappearance, the famous "psychic" told Shawn Hornbeck's parents that he was killed and where they should look for his dead body. She also offered them more help for $700. Maybe now people will stop believing that fraud!

Well, the more that comes out in this story, the more it looks as though Bill O'Reilly is right.

Fox has a story up that Shawn Devlin reported his bike stolen from in front of Devlins apt, ten months after he went missing. The problem is that the bike he reported stolen wasn't the one he was riding when he left home that day, it was a bike that his parents had bought him one month before he left. He told the police that his name was Shawn Devlin and that Michael Devlin was his father.

In know this is diverging from the topic a little, but that Oprah episode tore my heart out. When he was in the audience and they asked him to stand up he was nearly in tears. I wanted to yank him out of there because you could tell how uncomfortable it all was for him. :(

Then when the cops hugged him right before the commercial break, he gave them a big tight hug back. It was such a sweet moment. Honestly, when I heard Shawn was a teen covered in piercings and always wearing black I thought, "He's never gonna recover, he'll be a dark and angry person". But you can tell that this boy has a lot of love in him. It will take a lot of time, but I do think he will be able to recover.

Also, another thing I found interesting was that there were a lot of reports that he described himself as an atheist, but in the interview he talked about being Christian. I wonder if the rescue restored some of his faith? (Or maybe he was just saying that to make his parents happy.)
