This is 2007, decades after Powerpoint. Why doesn't President Bush use some visual aids during speeches, such as the map above (minus the theatre of war legends). Anyone who looks at this for 10 seconds sees how crucial Iraq is to the region, and can see the threats posed by Iran and Syria.
I believe the average American thinks Alaska is a small park located about 200 miles from their home, and that places like Iraq and Iran are vague concepts located only in newspaper and tv headlines.

Thanks for the map. I heard a discussion (I can't remember who) that GWB would not allow his successor to inherit a nuclear Iran.

Thanks for the map Meg.
I now understand why Diego Garcia is such an important base. Most maps of the gulf region don't go far enough south to include DG.

Interested and detailed map...I don't claim to be a military mastermind but is it possible that yesterday's test by China of a ground-based laser "kill" of a orbiting satellite was a "message"? Given China's increasing dependence on Iranian oil it will be interesting to see if China uses this new technology to interfere with any US and/or Israeli attack on Iran.

That's gotta be really old, we don't have any more bases in Saudi.
