Comedy film and television actor Ron Carey -- who began his career as a stand-up on "The Merv Griffin Show," "The Mike Douglas Show," "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson" -- has died. He was 71.
Carey died Tuesday of complications from a stroke at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He appeared on the hit TV series "Barney Miller" as officer Carl Levitt and the sitcom "Lucky Luke."
Carey's feature credits include Mel Brooks' "History of the World: Part 1," "High Anxiety," "Silent Movie," "Fatso" and "The Out of Towners."
Carey was born Dec. 11, 1935, in Newark, N.J. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, brother Jimmy Cicenia and sister-in-law Dolores.
A memorial is set for Tuesday at Christ the King Church in Los Angeles.
A very talented, and funny man. He will be missed very much.
Prayers for his family.
Funny man. He will be missed. Thanks for the laughter, Ron!
Rest In Peace Mr. Carey. He was fantastic on Barney Miller, and underrated show, in my opinion.
Was he the "I got it! I got it! I ain't got it!" guy from High Anxiety?
"I got it... I got it... I don't got it."
I loved Barney Miller. Great show. Ron Carey was great.
Damn you Jimbo.
Dr. Richard H. Thorndyke: [ripping duct tape off Brophy's mouth] Where is Brisbane?
[Ron Carey as] Brophy: They took him to - WAAAAAAOWWWWW!
[Asked to blow up a photograph]
Brophy: This is big. This is big. This is really big. [Camera pans back to show multi-storied picture to find clue]
Was he the guy on the Tonight Show who always had a bunch of gadgets that (hilariously) didn't work?
He was a very funny guy and I will miss him. Rest in peace Ron Carey.
He was a scene-stealing gem as Dom DeLuis' younger brother Frankie in "Fatso", and absolutely perfect as the Boston cabbie Barney Policzek in "The Out-of-Towners". Talented, underrated, quietly adding his comedic gifts to everything he appeared in.
Rest in peace, Officer Levine!

Aw man...why do the good ones die?
The opening scene alone is better than most of the sitcoms today.
"I got it! I Got it! I Got it" (SLAM) "I ain't got it"
High Anxiety
Bummer, him and Bruno Kirby are gone, same roles, same look, both funny as hell.
I remember the funny way he would perform a half twirl when reaching for the door as he exited Barney's office. Funny man.
