POSTED: 5:45 pm PST January 17, 2007 UPDATED: 6:58 am PST January 18, 2007
SAN DIEGO -- An illegal immigrant accused of driving drunk and killing a 22-year-old woman changed his guilty plea while in court on Wednesday.
During what was supposed to be his sentencing, Rafael Ramirez Perez, 22, told the court that his public defender misadvised him and that his family had hired a new attorney. He had pleaded guilty to two counts -- to second-degree murder and driving under the influence causing great bodily injury -- and, according to prosecutors, faced 21 years to life in prison.

Come on..................
Just another one of the politicians "good folks, looking for a better life".
This reminds me of an old song, "When will we ever learn, when will we ever learn?" The libs should remember this song well.
Hey White House. Have you washed your hands of this travesty too?
We must include Congess in this mess too.
Yeah, but Congress in legislative and the WH is executive meaning it is supposed to carry out the laws and enforce them. There are already enough laws that the WH could enforce using the Attorney General's office as well as many other federal agencies. But. You know and I know it has no desire to stop anyone from crossing the southern border.
How does getting a democrat elected or turning the government over to the democrats help the border situation?
Seems we lost our majority. Just how do we get legislation passed now that we lost the majority?
Dane's friend
What's the difference?
How come we couldn't get legislation passed while we had the majority?
That is a very good question.
I personally think we need term limits. I personally think we need new representatives and senators that will fight for our views instead of playing the country club games they play with their "friends the democrats".
I want some fighters - I am sick of the wimps in our congress.
How did having a republican president and Congress help the border situation? It doesn't matter. Bush had six years to even speak out against the border situation and he was mute.
If it hadn't been for 9-11 Bush's amnesty would have been in place by now.
Did you forget the look of relief on Bush's face when he was aked about co-operation with the dems on his "comprehensive immigration reform" plan the day after the election in 2006? He became a new man after that question was asked. He got all happy and excited and blathered on about "working with the democrats".
There was to be nothing less than amnesty and an open door policy to the south but for 9-11.
I couldn't agree more.
