I guess we would need to send in the troops there. How large an increase are you proposing for the American army, and how will we secure the "surge" of additional bodies? Doubling or tripling the pay, or the draft, or what?

You are arguing over what is POSSIBLE, when you should be arguing over what is NECESSARY.

Our present war policy guarantees defeat, both tactical and strategic.

My war policy, articulated here over and over again since 9/12/01, is the raising of and Army, Navy, and Marine Corps of sufficient size and ground combat power to conquer, occupy, and reconstruct all of Arabia and Pakistan.

Everyone always jumps on me by pointing out that the People would never accept such a policy. Fine.

But the reality of the war which has been declared against us has ZERO to do with what our People will accept or consent to. The war will go on, whatever we do or don't do, or whoever holds power in Washington, until we are defeated or they are defeated.

Our impending defeat in Iraq is only a battle, that's true.

But it will provide the fuel for an enormous expansion of enemy battle capability.

Torie, your reasoning goes like this:

We need a draft to field an army and marine corps of sufficient size to win.

But, if we do that, Republicans will be unpopular.

THEREFORE, what we are willing to do will be sufficient.

Unfortunately, that just doesn't follow.

I agree with you sir....but your position isn't politically correct....and I am afraid that the liberals have been working hard these last 30 years to emasculate America....and it appears that they have been successful.

Our present war policy guarantees defeat, both tactical and strategic.

Our only loss will be a battle, not the war. It's laughable to suggest Western Civ might actually lose the war - that's simply not a possibility.

So the Islamics nuke NYC, LA, DC. So what? Does that mean "we're defeated"? Hardly, it just means that whether it takes 5, 50 or 500 years, your initial war strategy (occupation & conversion) will eventually take place.

One thing that a lot of people don't seem to connect is the advent of gene therapy. Ultimately, the cure for Islamofacism is to increase the intelligence, and reduce the violent tendencies, via genetic engineering, of those who cannot conceive of a peaceful secular existence.

Again, that something for our descendent's to deal with. Regardless, human kind will continue to advance and sweep away the debris that threatens it.

"Everyone always jumps on me by pointing out that the People would never accept such a policy. Fine."

The People would too have accepted just such a policy.
They would have accepted World War II levels of censorship and rationing. They would have accepted Manzanar for Muslims, all the World War II precedents, IF the President had asked Congress to take the country to war.

Congress would not have refused, not in mid-September, 2001.

But he didn't, and so America is at peace, formally, legally, economically...but is fighting a couple of half wars, and national unity has fallen apart, prefiguring our defeat. Again.

None of this would be happening were America actually AT WAR.
And were America AT WAR, nobody would be resisting making the Army and Navy and Marine Corps and Air Force and even the Coast Guard all as big as they needed to be to resoundingly win the war, swiftly.

But the President didn't take us to war.
We're doing the police action thing again.
We've lost all of our police actions.
There is precedent there too.

Which SHOULD have been why students of history SHOULD HAVE urged the President to ask for a DoW.

They didn't.
He didn't.
Congress didn't sua sponte.
Now we're screwed.
Pity.

Maybe NEXT TIME we will learn and Declare War.
