COLUMBIA, S.C. - A man trying to steal a car at gunpoint from a couple ended up being shot himself, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says. Harold Levar Jeffcoat, 29, was arrested Sunday at the hospital where he was being treated for a gunshot wound to the buttocks, Lott said.
Jeffcoat was shot Saturday night after he stuck a gun into the stomach of a man getting into his car at a Wal-Mart in suburban northeast Richland County and demanded his keys, deputies said.
A woman in the passenger seat pulled a gun from the glove compartment and fired five shots at Jeffcoat, hitting him once, investigators said.
Lott is calling the couple heroes. The sheriff said police don't encourage people to go out and "just start shooting," but they do want people to protect themselves.
Jeffcoat also was wanted for at least nine other armed robberies across Columbia, Lott said.
Fired five rounds, one hit. Maybe not the best shot group but it seems to have been effective!
Awful hard to hit those flying elbows and aholes
Need more range time.....
Send her to the firing range for more practice.
Haha, when I read the headline I was thinking he got shot in his brain.
Good shot.
This is a great story that shows why we all need to get permits and pack heat. Here in Knoxville, TN the tragic other side happened a few weeks ago. A decent yong couple who'd been dating for about two months were carjacked and both were murdered. There's no indication either had a permit or was packing heat.
good thing for them they are not our Border Guards
A hit in the butt means the perp was running away; expect her arrest momentarily!
We need lots more "Lotts"!
Or she was shooting at him from the side which is likely since she was obviously on the passenger side of the car. Her friend was being held up at gunpoint. I think she had the right to pop him. Too bad she wasn't a better shot.
Yep, that's often the local prosecutor's response. In this case, though, the shooter/passenger was seated in the car when the carjacker accosted the driver. Both were presumably standing alongside the car, giving the shooter a clear shot at the perp's lower half. He's just lucky that he wasn't facing the other way; he might've received a centerfire catheter.
The article doesn't say which of the five shots the shooter scored with; I'd suspect she got him with the first shot and then continued to fire at a moving (retreating) target.
I'll bet her ears are still ringing, too.
He did.
Yeah, but "Democrat Logic Nerve Cluster" is soooo much better.
Agreed.
