it wasn't used as a political wedge issue in campaign ads beyond the Dick Morris one, and by talk radio, which is preaching to the choir anyway.

the administration doesn't want to deal with the senate oversight, and they never make any attempt to use these kinds of issues to marginalize the Democrats.

Why not just say you won't and do it anyway like the last administration?

its the FISA court.

and what happens when an intercept is made, and the FISA court doesn't feel it justifies a retro-active warrant - NSA is forced to "forget" that they passed the information to the FBI, and everybody walks free?

the FISA court mechanism is badly flawed - that's why this program was instituted to bypass it in the first place.

the supreme court doesn't grant these warrants, the FISA court does.

Read my tagline and get yourself a new pair of knees.

Talk about pointing out the sliver in the President's eye and failing to see the log in your own!

so because 2 warrants were approved, we can trust that all future ones will be?

what's going to happen here is - the agents who work on this program, are going to look at the amount of work needed to get these FISA warrants - and just decide not to bother doing it for most intercepts. it won't be worth the trouble.

I can't believe anyone would be on here thinking this is a GOOD move by the administration.

we all spent years saying how great it was that they were showing backbone on this national security issue. now it gets dumped, and we are still supposed to say its a great idea. you can't have it both ways.

Interesting note.. by giving the authority to the FISA court, and by replacing the members of the FISA court (which isn't reported on..) President Bush has made the program safe from any congressional legislation (ie, dems trying to kill it..) and keeps it going after the 08 elections..

Always more to the story than first reported...

Well, I guess if you all hate him now for no longer protecting us, the terrorists will think the same thing.
A bit obvious don't you think.
come on...he'll do whatever he has to, til they(libs) find out about it and blab it to the enemy....again!!
