Created in 1947 by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the Doomsday Clock has been adjusted only 17 times prior to today, most recently in February 2002

Only 17 times?  Prior to today? That's 18 times including today. If these guys are so bright, why do they change their minds every couple of years?

The above line should say: Created in 1947 by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the Doomsday Clock has been adjusted every 2yrs and 9 months.

-or-

Created in 1947 by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the Doomsday Clock has been adjusted a whopping 18 times including today, the last time as recently as February 2002

Somehow that line doesn't sound ominous.

At the end of the Cold War, the clock was moved to seventeen minutes before midnight, a signal of "safety." Little did the BAS realize that demise of the Soviet Union would herald a much more dangerous enemy, the Islamists.

They still don't know the truth.
