The JihadWatch.org website, however, asked: "How can we be sure he will be telling the truth if he swears on the Quran? The Quran tells Muslims that they may utter unbelief if 'under compulsion.'"
The website cited the Quran, verse 16:106: "Any one who, after accepting faith in Allah, utters Unbelief except under compulsion, his heart remaining firm in Faith but such as open their breast to Unbelief, on them is Wrath from Allah, and theirs will be a dreadful Penalty."
Deception under what Muslims consider compulsion is called Taqiyya and kitman . The term compulsion as considered by a Muslim leaves a very loose interpretation to justify lying in any situation.

Storm in a teacup. Allow all religious books or none. If a scientologist wants to swear on'Battlefield Earth' that's fine to me. People who are going to lie will do so whether they have a bible or a menu in their hands.

That is true. To me as long as they tell the truth that is most important. This all seems a bit ridiculous, but I guess this is the direction our country is going.

Not just your country - petty minds focussed on irrelevant details are a worldwide phenomenon! Anyway, off to bed for me!

You're missing the point. This goes beyond the simple right to take oath with a particular book. The tenet of Islam is to subjugate, convert or destroy all those who are not Muslim. They seek world domination just as the Nazis. Americans ignored this fact while the Nazi's rose to power and the result was mass murder and WWII. The same will happen if we keep burying our heads in the sand. Those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it.

As a devout Scientologist, I am offended by your comments. "Battlefield Earth" is not our most sacred book, it is our third. I can't tell you what the most sacred is until you reach Level 5.

As far as I know all states allow the option of "affirming" that you will tell the truth rather than swearing, on the Bible or anything else.
To: Man50D
What's the value of having a muslim swear on the Bible anyway?
(Although having them swear on the Quran doesn't really gain anything as it tells them to lie to "infidels".)
To: Androcles
What happens when someone uses the "it's okay to lie under Islam" defense against a perjury charge?
If someone's going to swear on a Koran, maybe we should have an additional oath to go with it.

I guess they can now use Mien Kamf as well???
To: Man50D
The whole idea of swearing an oath, especially on a holy book, is a hangover from a belief system in place at the time the Constitution was written.
Hardly anybody today, even quite religious people, believe their soul is doomed to eternal hellfire if the swear falsely on a holy book. A couple of centuries ago, an oath like this actually meant something beyond making one "liable to the penalties of perjury."
Anybody know the procedure in Muslim countries or under Sharia?

How about having Neo-National Socialists swear on Mien Kamf?

>>>Storm in a teacup.<<<
This is one tiny little thread. Also today here on FR, we have all sorts of news of 40 Muslims outraged because of a missed flight, Muslims in Toronto schools urging the school boards to teach about Israeli oppression of the Palis, of course! the burqini threads, fighting in Iraq, the French got caught trying to do some deal with Tehran, etc. It will continue all day. Take all the threads and all the Muslims and they will weave them into a full blown global war. This woman in the article who wants the Koran in an American court is a warrior for jihad, the "Wear 'em Down Brigade".
It is certainly not a storm in a teacup. That thinking is what has allowed the Muslims to get as far as they have already.
