I think it's pretty much against the law to have anything larger and sharper than a butter knife.

Now if I was one of these two unarmed cops, and this samurai guy saved my partner and I, there's no way I would arrest him for having a sword.

After words of words of gratitude, I would advise him to disappear before any backup cops (who may arrest him) arrive.

IMHO, A very likely scenario in this case.
