Barack Is Beautiful? (Rev. Jessie and Rev. Al are upset alert)
The Wall Street Journal ^ | January 16, 2007 | James Taranto

Posted on 01/16/2007 1:56:30 PM PST by Zakeet

The Associated Press reports that Barack Obama, Illinois's African-American junior senator, has established a presidential exploratory committee in preparation for a possible run next year. Meanwhile, London's Sunday Times reports that there is a distinct lack of enthusiasm among so-called civil rights leaders:

At a meeting of activists in New York last week, the Rev Jesse Jackson, the first black candidate to run for president, declined to endorse Obama. "Our focus right now is not on who's running, because there are a number of allies running," Jackson said.

The Rev Al Sharpton, the fiery New York preacher who joined the Democratic primary race in 2004, said he was considering another presidential run of his own. And Harry Belafonte, the calypso singer who became an influential civil rights activist, said America needed to be "careful" about Obama: "We don't know what he's truly about." . . .

When asked about Obama's likely candidacy, [Sharpton] shrugged: "Right now we're hearing a lot of media razzle-dazzle. I'm not hearing a lot of meat, or a lot of content. I think when the meat hits the fire, we'll find out if it's just fat, or if there's some real meat there." . . .

[Snip]

What's going on here? It's common enough for black "leaders" to attack black Republicans like Clarence Thomas and Michael Steele--Belafonte has even made racist remarks about Colin Powell--but Obama is a Democrat, so the hostility toward him isn't partisan in origin. Nor is it ideological, really. Obama may not be as ultraleft as Belafonte, but he is a very liberal Democrat--certainly more liberal than either of the Clintons, whom the "civil rights" crowd lionize.

The bad news ... you'll have to read the article to get the WS Journal's conclusion as to why the senior civil rights leaders have their panties in a wad over the junior senator from Illinois' likely candidacy for president.

The good news ... it's not too hard to figure this on out on your own.

Oh my God I can't believe I agree with Harry Belafonte. I'm sure the reason their knickers are in a twist is that he has gotten between them and the camera.

The old race-baiting guard is worried that all their butt-kissing of the Clintons, and similar Dem politicians, will be for naught.

Jesse Jackson ran for president once, and then set up a multi-billion dollar business in which the Democrats paid him off for agreeing every four years not to run again.

After his streak of bad publicity a few years ago, Jesse lost some of his political clout, and Al Sharpton thought maybe he could step forward and take Jackson's place, as the designated black who would not run for president every four years if the Democrats paid him not to.

Because of the Tawana Brawley affair, however, Sharpton was already damaged goods. But he still has his hopes. So naturally, neither of these race extortionists is very happy to see some previously unknown junior outsider--who is doubtfully even an American black--come along and threaten to take away their very profitable businesses of extorting money from the taxpayers courtesy of their generous Democrat patrons.

So if Barack gets elected the race-hucksters won't be able to yell "racism" any more! What a perverted convoluted world the race-hucksters have created and the media and dems have accepted.

I ran into the Reverend last week on an elevator. I had to laugh as he pretended to be on the phone to avoid chit chat with the common folk. He must have some cell service to get a signal in an elevator of a really, really tall Manhattan building.

Well if push comes to shove I'll vote for Barack if it'll keep the hildabeast out of the White House and if the Republicans don't come up with someone other than the ones they are floating around right now ala McCain, Guiliani, Romney etc. None of them are are going to light a fire under the conservatives.
