"I only wish Fox had not put "24" up against the Golden Globes. If they are trying to educate Americans, then they need ratings to do it. The Globes slaughtered "24" in the ratings (per Drudge)"

"Ratings" are a thing of the past as the advent of devices like VCRs and Tivo have rendered them moot. I "watched" two shows last night: I recorded 24 and watched Dirty Jobs. I could have been recording a third if I wanted to.........

The overnight ratings DO include same-day DVR viewing. From the zap2it.com article about yesterday's Neilsen overnight ratings:

Ratings information is taken from fast national data, which includes live and same-day DVR viewing. All numbers are preliminary and subject to change, especially in the case of live telecasts.

The Golden Globes had about a 13 rating and 20 share (over 13 million viewers, and 20% of the TVs on at that time were tuned to it). 24 had about a 9 rating and 13 share. Since more people tend to watch 24 together than other shows, a 9 rating could translate to about 10 million viewers.
