It's not class envy. I should have been more specific; in my parlance, the "country clubbers" are the New World Order globalists, open borders, anything-so-I-can-make-a-dimers. Not every wealthy Republican, of which I am one, is a "country clubber." The "country clubbers" are why we are having an amnesty debate in the first place. They want cheap, illegal labor. I want to adhere to the Constitution. THAT used to be what the Republican party was about.

"And while I don't think they liked chosing between negatives, the democrats at least were discussing issues, not party."

The main issue I could see from them is they hate GWB, and they want to surrender in Iraq.

He's a RINO who is good on the immigration issue. Sorry, that's not enough. So far, Romney is the only guy I could support.

Paul wouldn't run as running mate with a guy who has consistently supported the Iraq war.

Maybe not, but these 2 are the only names on MY short list.

Fascinating how the industrialists, the entrepeneurs, the capitalists etc have become the bad guys and are now "country clubbers".

I'm assuming that small businessmen are not what the poster was referring to. When freepers refer to "country-club Republicans", they are typically talking about folks who ignore other facets of conservatism such as limited government, 2nd Amendment rights, and pro-life issues and are willing to support people who are against such issues, as long as it increases their bottom line. You must admit that that crowd is really annoying to mainstream conservatives.

RINO stands for Republican in name only. The Republican party is supposed to stand for low taxes, small government and less government intrusion as well as pro life and traditional American values.
That is what Tancredo stands for. look at his voting record:

Voting Record

American Conservative Union A+
National Right to Life Committee A
National Rifle Association A
Family Research Council A
Americans for Better Immigration A+
National Federation of Independent Business A+

What is there in his record that makes him a RINO in your opinion? Romney, on the other hand, truly is a RINO, just look at his record.

Have you looked into Duncan Hunter? He's a really good all-around conservative.

Stranger things have happened. Look at Gore/Lieberman for instance.

Hopefully Hunter and Tancredo will notice that their issue positions are very similar and will decide to run together one for president and one for VP. Either one at the top of the ticket would be acceptable to me.

I'm with you 100%. I really hope that by the time the primaries roll around there is only one conservative in the running. McCain, Rudy and Mitt would split the liberal/moderate vote and the conservative could have a chance. That said, I welcome as many conservatives as possible into this pre-primary battle.

"You have got to be kidding."

No, I'm not! Just because you and others like you perceive it as so , doesn't mean it's fact. You're looking at issues people are passionate about and *ASSUMING* they have no other concerns. I'd like to give FReepers more credit than that.

Tancredo's Dubious Allies

By The Prowler

Published 1/16/2007 12:08:57 AM

In fact, it's not clear Tancredo is in line with the mainstream, social conservative wing of the GOP he seeks to align himself with. According to campaign finance reports, one of Tancredo's biggest financial backers has been the family of Dr. John Tanton, the founder of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). Wall Street Journal editorial-page features writer Jason Riley wrote a devastating piece about the organization back in 2004, in which the group's pro-abortion and pro-eugenics roots were revealed.

Tanton is also one of the most prominent conservative financiers of Planned Parenthood in the United States, having helped found in the mid-1960s the first Planned Parenthood chapter in northern Michigan.

Tancredo appears to have embraced FAIR's extreme and repugnant policy positions, having accepted more than $20,000 from the FAIR PAC and personal donations from Tanton between 1996 and 2006. Over the past ten years, according to Federal Election Commission reports, FAIR has provided more than $15,000 to Tancredo campaigns and PACs. Tanton has given Tancredo $7,000, while donating $28,000 to FAIR's political action arm.

We have any number of Freepers who only post regarding one issue. If they have any other concerns, they keep them secret.

Interesting survey here of why the Republicans lost.

Uh, Duncan Hunter has already made stopping illegal immigration part of his campaign. All Tancredo will do is split up the conservative vote in the GOP primaries. As a candidate, Hunter is heads and shoulders above Tancredo.

As much as I like Tancredo and appreciate how much he has done I will support Hunter. Tancredo will have trouble explaining why he avoided the draft in the Vietnam era. I heard the situation a year ago but I don't remember the details. At thata time I said that Tancredo would never make it as a candidate. A Dim could get away with it (a la Klinton) but never a Pubbie.

Well, Lieberman (who used to be much hated here) recanted all of his earlier views to get the veep slot. Ron Paul is not the kind of man to do that. Is Tancredo?

Tancredo was abused by his father. In his late teens and early adulthood, Tancredo was treated for depression. Receiving treaments for depression enabled Tancredo to be exempted from the draft.

Not everybody is as willing to openly express themselves as you or I. I try to spread myself throughout the forum but, immigration holds great interest for me. Maybe because Texas is a battleground state, I'm a sixth generation Texan and We have the most to lose.

Unfortunately that could also be held against as a candidate stating that under pressure he could be unstable unfair but unfortunately a reality
