Me, too. But it's a twisted way of showing the horror they feel about what was done to this child. They don't want to believe that a monster, feeling itself entitled to do whatever it pleases to another human being, can just swoop down and destroy all their lives in a heart beat. No, THEY are safe, THEIR children are safe-it HAD to be the victim's fault. And so they start looking for proof that either the victim wanted to stay, or that the kidnapping was the parent's fault , or both. The monster becomes an after thought.
