I have no idea as to the validity of the viewpoint expressed in this article but assume an opinion expressed within Canada's principal Veterans' publication may be of interest to those better versed in these issues than I.

The State Department claimed that Canada had become pretty lax in allowing individuals who were potential security risks to gain access to U.S. military technology.

If you have become weak in internal security what have you done to fix it? The author does not address in any specifics to improve Canadian security. The Canadians only object. Don't expect dual use US technology until you follow technology transfer security laws.

"But in the spring of 1999, the U.S. State Department, which controls exports of U.S. munitions, unilaterally changed the rules for Canadian-based companies. The State Department claimed that Canada had become pretty lax in allowing individuals who were potential security risks to gain access to U.S. military technology."

The Spring of 1999???

"Put simply, both the Canadian and U.S. governments are fully aware that neither the Canadian federal government, nor virtually any of the provinces, has any legal right to discriminate against potential employees on the basis of their dual citizenship. To do so would be an obvious violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and provincial human rights laws."

must feelgood to spout such nonsense when the cold hard truth is that the US rules for defense vendors are what they are......take it or leave it!

"The people are so friendly here," one of the soldiers jokes, "at least in the sense that they don't try to kill us on sight, but instead have the basic decency to (plot) our deaths in the privacy of their own homes."

Great articles !
