Who at "Free Press" signed off on a book that calls Christians, "Fascists"? The groundwork is being laid for real persecution of Christians in America.

And yet that entire crew of "fascists" couldn't keep Satan's own party out of Congressional control. Spare me.

The usual dishonest hit-piece from a guy who was too far-left even for the NY Times.....now he associates himself with "The Nation Institute" and other neo-Stalinist outfits.
fyi, the book's ranting far-left author, Chris Hedges, is the drooling jackal who was one of the most objective, impartial, and fair-minded (sic) NY Times correspondents in recent memory.
He is the guy who proclaimed:
""This is a war of liberation in Iraq, but it is a war of liberation by Iraqis from American occupation."

Isn't it amazing how those without God seem so offended and want to attack those WITH God...
Satan loves these useful idiots.

What nonsense. The christian right isn't populated by facists. - rolls eyes. However if one were to imbue some of them with the title of socialists there'd be some truth to that.

The only difference between Chris Hedges and Vladimir Lenin is that Lenin had power. That same mindset of oppression and subjugation lives on.
To: freedomdefender
What's interesting about this - without having read the book (only the review you've posted) I am wondering about the level of sophistication of the attack - does he make any theological distictions or is it all just this same big monster called "the Christian right?" If the latter, the work has little credibility, and its support will be of the emotional variety from those who already agree with the premise before turning the first page.
If he does make nuances, it behooves us to heed Niemoller's warning:
When the Nazis came for the communists, I remained silent; I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats, I remained silent; I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists, I did not speak out; I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out

If the conservative Christians come to power, Hedges asserts, evangelical leaders such as Kennedy, Falwell and Robertson could be "calling for the punishment, detention and quarantining of gays and lesbians - as well as abortionists, Muslims and other nonbelievers."
One thing that me and this guy have in common is that neither one of us knows what in the hell he's talking about. Who does he hope to alarm with these absurd charges? Those that would eat it up are already on his side and have been for a long time.

He doesn't sayOf course not, because to propose a solution would be to become exactly what he is projecting onto the "Christian Right."

"Hedges advocates passage of federal hate-crimes legislation prohibiting intolerance..."

I remember Chris Hedges when he went to college. Didn't seem like such a peace weenie back then. Too bad. I actually liked him. Sigh.

Virtually all of Christianity
"should no longer be tolerated," because it "would destroy the tolerance that makes an open society possible."We must destroy freedom and our open society in order to save freedom and our open society.
Liberalism is an emotional illness.
I hope to live long enough to find out that I am wrong; to wit, the nutty liberals ain't crazy after all. We really will intern the nuttiest of the nutty liberals.

It takes a mind like Jon Weiner's to boil one of Chris Hedges's concepts down to brass tacks like this:
Hedges concludes that the Christian right "should no longer be tolerated," because it "would destroy the tolerance that makes an open society possible."
...and completely miss the irony.
Now, what kind of mind that amounts to, is a question I will leave for others to sort out.
