(Greenville-AP) January 14, 2007 - US Senator Christopher Dodd calls Sunday for the removal of the Confederate flag that flies at the South Carolina Statehouse. The Connecticut Democrat was attending a Martin Luther King Junior memorial event at a Greenville church Sunday night.
He says black and white young people from South Carolina are fighting under one flag in Iraq and Afghanistan. Dodd says the Confederate flag belongs in a museum.
Dodd will be at the King Day at the Dome rally at the Statehouse Monday. The event was started six years ago as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People launched economic sanctions against South Carolina to force the flag from the Capitol dome.
It was moved from there and put out front at the Confederate Soldier Monument on Statehouse grounds.

Spain, Mexico? Why would you want to do that? What is your allegiance today? Because Mexico and Spain were part of our history, just like the Stars and Bars. You can look at my homepage and see my allegiance ... unlike you who we know nothing about.

Though Durham is a democractically controlled city, I loved it when I grew up there! There are still good people around mixed in with all the corrup liar(lawy)er types that run the city (Mike Nifong is part of that liberal-corrupt Convention_!
Hope you enjoy, once you settle on a good place around there (Don't move "in-city") Move to the county-it's great ;)@!

I am reminded of the words of Benjamin Franklin: "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."
If Lincoln had not prevailed in preserving the union, there would be no United States today. Of course there also would be no Confederate States Of America.
The individual states, so weakened by the catastrophic internal struggle would likely have been overrun by French or British forces and our republic dissolved.

The "Stars and Bars" is the current Ga. flag, without the Ga. seal in the center of the circle of stars. The familiar Battle flag is not the Stars and Bars. Actually, the current Ga. flag (with the seal) was used by a Ga. Regt early in the War

The "Stars and Bars" is the current Ga. flag, without the Ga. seal in the center of the circle of stars. Did you check the link I provided? According to it, the flag was changed in 2003.
Georgia State Flag, Current
"On May 8, 2003, Governor Sonny Perdue signed H.B. 380 creating a new state flag for Georgia. The act became effective immediately, giving Georgia its third state flag in a period of 27 months. Support for the new flag came from critics of the 2001 flag and those who felt there should be a public referendum on the state flag. The legislation also provided for a statewide advisory referendum on March 2, 2004, at which time voters will choose between the 2001 and 2003 flags. However, results of the referendum are not binding, and any future flag change will require an act of the General Assembly.
Georgia's new state flag is based on the first national flag of the Confederacy (the "Stars and Bars") and consists of a field of three horizontal bars of equal width, two red separated by a white bar in the center. In the upper left corner is a square blue canton the width of two bars. In the center of the canton is a circle of 13 white stars, symbolizing Georgia and the other 12 original states that formed the United States of America. Within the circle of stars is Georgia's coat of arms (the central design on the state seal) immediately above the words "In God We Trust" -- both in gold.

The Whitfield Plantation was razed along with the rest of the town to outfit the whims of Grant's wife. There is ample documentation of her taking the furniture to Memphis and shipping it back to Galena. The Confederate Cavalry stopped her and commented and thought she was running from the Union taking her treasures and that she was the ugliest woman many of them had ever seen. The Cavalry later found out that the woman had been Grant's wife. The Whitfields petitioned after the war to have their possessions returned to no avail. Looks like the effort to free the slaves also was to free we Southerners of our furniture.

You have absolutely no way of knowing any of that. We all could be far better off, as far as anyone knows. You've got 145 years of history to play with.

I don't think the people of South Carolina need a scum-sucking liberal from Connecticut to dictate their state policies to them.
Dodd should get on his broom and fly back to Yankeedom and the land of Kerry, Kennedy et al and stop tryinig to create mountains out of molehills.

Dodd is a joke and is making a fool of himself by entering the race. Does he actually think he has a chance? Wow - he's taking on the confederate flag issue - Gee, maybe he'll take the black vote from Obama. LOL.

There is ample documentation of her taking the furniture to Memphis and shipping it back to Galena. And where does this ample documentation reside? Grant's memoirs don't mention it. Mrs. Grant's memoirs don't mention being captured by Rebel soldiers. There are letters Grant wrote to Julia during the Corinth campaign, so she seems to have been back home in St. Louis during the period in question. So I'm interested in learning more on this one incident which seems to have been overlooked by every historian I'm aware of.

Dodd is simply trying to upset stability in the Carolinas by provoking sectarian conflict.

The young women were poor during the early part of the 20th Century, the men their age immature and unstable, and the veterans were responsible and gentlemen.Plus they were getting pensions which their widows would continue to receive after their deaths. I believe the last confederate widow died just a few years ago
